An Experience Fit for a Qing at Hammam Al Sultan

I had heard about this new spa called Hammam Al Sultan that opened up in Sheraton, Heliopolis and was very eager to try it out as they promise a sultan-like experience! I finally decided to treat myself to a nice massage and some much needed pampering on my birthday. I made the call and reserved a spot at night!

Getting there wasn't very hard as the directions given by the receptionist were easy to follow (It is right next to Jaz Cafe). Once I got there and as I got through the door to a pleasantly decorated entrance, I got pretty excited. The place is clean and well-kept which is always a good sign when going to a spa. After I was greeted at the reception, I was shown to a lounging area to wait while they prepare for me. The wait was a little annoying as I stayed for about 40 minutes before they asked me to change and go in. I spent the time admiring the mix of Ottoman and Oriental inspired decoration and really get in the mood.

Finally it was time for me to go in and I was asked to change in the out-in-the-open lockers right by the lounge. I changed into my swimsuit and was ready for some pampering! I went for the basic spa package/Turkish bath which includes steam, sauna, hot tub, body scrub and a massage session. All for the cost of 330 L.E. which is very reasonable when compared to hotel spa prices.

The overall experience was pretty cool! The place is clean, nicely decorated, smells good and is organized. I was escorted to the hot tub first for a quick dip, then I was washed with soap and warm water. Next step was the steam room where you can stay for as long as you like. Afterwards you are taken for a full body scrub which ends in a soothing bubble treatment. It was time for some Jacuzzi time and finally I was ready for my massage. They covered me up in towels and allowed me to rest my body for a little while before going in for the massage.

The masseur came and took me to the massage room where they had candles lit and all the music classics playing. Apparently my muscles were tense -when are they ever not?!- and I got a "sports" massage as the masseur called it. It was very professionally done with no harassment of any sort; I had to clarify that since the first questions I was asked by friends was if there were any sexual attempts. No. The entire staff was extremely professional and nice.

After the very relaxing massage, I enjoyed some freshly made pomegranate juice and was ready to go home and crawl into bed.

In short, Hammam Al Sultan is definitely recommended for those who want some R&R at a good price. It is not super high-end but it has good value for money, professional staff and it is well-kept and clean. They have special packages for grooms and brides too since women can also enjoy the spa during the day. So if your big day is soon or have a friend who is getting married this is a perfect gift! One final note: you have to try the clogs. They look horrible but they are funny to walk in! ;)
Quite fashionable, don't you think?! No?
