Men of the Met: The Gala's Best Dressed

The extravagant star-studded Met Gala's red carpet is one of the most anticipated of the year! The focus is mostly on all the beautiful gowns and the ladies wearing them. What about the men? This year, the dress code was ultra-formal white tie. Most of the men came dressed to the nines!

Let's take a look at some of the best dressed men on the red carpet and pin-point some trends for reference.

Black Affair
Nothing says formal like a black tuxedo! For the most classic, chic and timeless effect always go for black. I love how Tom Ford changed it up with white gloves and Hugh Dancy wore an over-sized bow tie while the rest opted for a white tie following the dress code. The waistcoats are a great option to add to the formality of a suit and also give definition. I don't think the tail coat will ever be out of style!

White Sensation
On the other hand, some of our favourite celebrities went for a white blazer and black bow tie. Now be careful with this choice, the white blazer can usually look a bit boxy and doesn't give the definition of a black or dark suit. The perfect combo here, I believe, is that of Joshua Jackson's. The suit collar is black and accentuates his body shape and he keeps it simple with a white bow tie.

Alternative Chic
For such a formal event, it's usually hard to make an adventurous choice for the red carpet. However, these guys managed to add a little something extra (or go all the way like Neil and David) and look damn fine too! Ryan chose a midnight blue tuxedo, well-fitted and looked absolutely wonderful next to his wife Blake Lively in a rose-gold shimmering dress.  Andrew Garfield went for a metallic choice with a silver blazer and finally for the most outstanding outfits of Neil & David who chose a cropped tail coat suit. While Neil went for a classic black and white tux, David daringly picked mixed patterns with a red collar line. I don't think it was a right choice for the Met gala since they look like an entertainment number for the king.

If you are not that adventurous when it comes to fashion choices, the best thing you can do for a stylish addition is to wear an interesting bow-tie.
