For the love of Polka: the dots not the dance!

What better to blog about in my first post but Polka dots! I as well as many others share a passion for Polka Dots. Polka dots have been around for ages, No one really knows when the use of the pattern started but it is said to be originated in Europe and became rather popular in the 40's,50's and 60's when stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Minnie Mouse were all seen wearing polka dot clothing.

But you see, this is not a post about the history of polka dots or it's use in art and women's fashion. This post is about polka dots and MEN'S fashion. Many men believe the polka dot pattern to be feminine and would rather be seen dead than wear it! The thing is polka dots have been as widely spread and present in men's fashion as it was with women's fashion. The pattern may not be utilized all the same way or with the same colors but it was definitely present.

Check out these variety of pictures I found for the use of Polka dot in men's wear. Below is the most basic form of the use of polka dot; in an accessory. The tie and the scarf are not even in the conventional black and white combination and yet still maintain the hip and trendy effect.
The Tie looks hip and instantly adds a fashion forward element to a rather bland outfit.

Navy blue and cream white scarf exudes simplicity and style.
As for the following picture, It is my favorite use of the Polka dot pattern; A blazer. This might not be everyone's cup of tea and it's safe to say not many can pull it off! What's great about the blazer here is that the large pattern and the classic B&W colors give it a masculine and trendy look. It's also worth noting that such blazer is incredibly versatile for both the black and the white are base colors and can be used virtually with any other color. Most commonly used with Yellow and Red.

And check out this awesome slip on low-cut polka dot loafers!
Don't they just look quite dapper?!

Simply put, Polka Dots are a classic and will always be in style.
